December 2019 - Posts
On November 19th, 2019 at approximately 10:40 pm, the Aurora Public Safety Communications Center received reports of a serious traffic collision in the southbound lanes of I-225 just south of the I-70 interchange. Upon arrival, Fire and Police personnel found a passenger car driven by a single occupant that collided with the back of a large waste collection truck. The truck was stopped in the lanes of traffic after experiencing a mechanical failure when the drive shaft came off the vehicle. As the truck was stopped, it was struck from behind by the passenger car at estimated highway speeds.

The driver of the passenger car was transported to a nearby hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. The driver was stabilized and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. In the early hours of December 1st, 2019, the driver succumbed to injuries related to the collision.

The identity of the driver is not being released at this time. The Aurora Police Traffic Section conducted the initial investigation and the collision continues to be under investigation to determine all involved factors.

This incident marks the 29th traffic related fatality in Aurora for 2019.
