On March 10th at 11:54 PM, Aurora Police and Fire-Rescue responded to a crash on the 1300 block of South Chambers Circle.  There they found a 2008 Saab sedan had crashed into a parked cable company work van.  The adult female driver and male occupant of the Saab self-extricated after the crash.  Both parties were transported to a local hospital. The male later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The Aurora Police Traffic Unit responded for the investigation.  Evidence indicates that the Saab was southbound on S. Chambers Cir., when it swerved off the right side of the road and into the parked van.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.  As a result, the driver was arrested for Vehicular Homicide.  Her identity will be released at a later time.

The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will assist in determining the exact cause of death of the victim and release his identity after family notifications have been made.

A motorcycle was eastbound E Quincy Ave in the right lane when a Westbound Quincy Ave Hyundai sedan made a left turn to southbound Pitkin St. The motorcycle impacted the passenger side of the Hyundai ejecting the adult male rider of the motorcycle.  The adult rider of the motorcycle was pronounced at the scene.

The adult male driver of the Hyundai was not injured and remained on scene for the investigation.

The roadway was closed for eastbound Quincy traffic and both northbound/southbound Pitkin at Quincy traffic for the investigation.
Speed appears to be a factor
We are not releasing the name of the deceased until family is notified.  Further inquiries should be made to the Arapaho County Coroner's Office.

(February 19, 2020) On Wednesday February 19, 2020 at about 11:20 a.m., Aurora Police Department Officers in the area of East Mississippi Avenue and North Sable Boulevard saw a pickup truck and recognized that it was stolen in a burglary yesterday.  The keys were taken from an unsecured locker at the Morehead Recreation Center.

Officers in an unmarked patrol vehicle observed a stolen vehicle in the area.  As officers were investigating the stolen vehicle it was involved in a crash.  Officers had not yet initiated a traffic stop, nor were they in pursuit.
The officers began to follow the vehicle without turning on their lights and sirens because they were in an unmarked car.  The driver of the stolen pickup, a 2010 Toyota Tacoma, ran the red light at East 6th Avenue and North Sable Boulevard.  The pickup truck struck an RTD bus, another pickup truck, and an Aurora City Parks and Recreation vehicle.    The Aurora Officers did not turn on their lights and siren to make a traffic stop before the driver accelerated.

The stolen pickup truck rolled, striking a power box, and came to rest in the ditch just north of E. 6th Avenue and N. Dillon Way.  There were seven juvenile passengers in the stolen pickup truck.  Aurora Fire Rescue and Falk Ambulance responded to the scene.  Multiple people had to be extricated from the stolen pickup truck.  In total, there were nine people injured: seven minor injuries, one serious, and one critical.

The damage to the power box has caused power outages in the area.

The intersection was closed for a period of time while officers were investigating this incident.

Aurora Police Department Traffic Investigators are handling this investigation which is ongoing.  It will be some time before appropriate charges are determined.  The names of those involved are not being released at this time.

(February 12, 2020) On February 10, 2020, Public Safety Communications Division received a 911 call at approximately 10:51 A.M. about a male shot in the area of 359 North Potomac Circle. Aurora Police Officers quickly arrived on scene and located an adult male who had been shot. Officers applied a tourniquet to this male that likely saved his life. This male was then transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

Officers gathered descriptions of additional individuals seen running from the scene and relayed this information over the radio. Responding officers observed two additional males matching that description near the intersection of East 2nd Place and North Potomac Street. These males were contacted, and both were armed with firearms when detained. While speaking to these individuals, one was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound. The other male was suffering from a different health issue but was not shot. These two adult males were both transported to the hospital in non-critical condition.

While checking the immediate area near 359 North Potomac Circle, officers located an additional male that had been shot inside of a black vehicle. This male was rushed to the hospital in extremely serious condition, where he currently remains. The only information we are releasing currently about the male’s identity is that he is 17 years old.

Two of the people involved have since been released from the hospital and both have been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery. Due to the ongoing investigation, and needing to complete additional interviews and photo lineups, their names and booking photos are unavailable.

A third adult male is still admitted into the hospital in serious condition, but with non-life-threatening injuries. Once discharged, this male will be arrested and charged with attempted murder. Additionally, because of the active investigation, his name and booking photo will not be available for release at this time.

The investigation into this incident is still ongoing. If you have any information or video of the crime, please contact Agent Randy Hansen with the Major Crimes Homicide Unit at 303-739-6710. Tipsters can also call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

This case will be prosecuted by the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office. Any further inquiries about this case will need to be directed to their office.

(February 5th, 2020) In July of 2019, the Aurora Police Department Economic Crimes Unit began investigating a forgery scam that targeted a 16-year-old high school student.  The suspects in this scam used social media to contact the victim and enticed him to provide his banking information.  They would then deposit forged money orders into the victim’s account.  As soon as the money was deposited into the account, the suspects would withdraw the money before the money orders were discovered to be forgeries.  The victim was promised a small portion of the cash in exchange for the use of their account. Instead, the victim was held financially responsible for the returned lost funds.

Through an extensive investigation, APD Investigator Myshell Bolton was able to identify the three suspects and locate additional victims.  The suspects were identified as Hussein Farah, 23-year-old male (shown in image below with a black shirt), Abdihakiin Hassan, 19-year-old male (shown in image below with a grey Nike shirt), and a 16-year-old male.  No further information will be released on the juvenile suspect.

On 01/10/2020 Investigator Bolton filed criminal charges of Money laundering, Identity Theft, Forgery, and other crimes with the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office.

The Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office issued warrants for all three suspects and will prosecute the case.  Hassan turned himself in on 01/25/2020.  The juvenile male was arrested on 02/02/2020 by Aurora Police Department.  Farah has not yet been arrested.  Any further inquiries regarding this case should be directed to the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office.

The Aurora Police Department urges parents to speak with their children because we believe there may be other victims of this scheme. Victims may be hesitant to come forward due to a fear of being criminally charged.  However, the APD and District Attorney’s Office will review each case and may take the stance, as they did in this case, that these are innocent victims that have been coerced by the suspects into the scheme.

If any members of the public have information about this case, please contact Investigator Myshell Bolton at 303.739.6142.

Tipsters can also remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000 by contacting Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).

information previously released on January 25, 2020:

(January 25, 2020) On Saturday January 25th, 2020, at approximately 8:54 p.m., Denver police officers were pursuing an armed robbery suspect in a vehicle which led them into the City of Aurora.

The suspects vehicle crashed into at least two cars on Interstate 225 (I-225) and East Colfax Avenue. The suspect then carjacked a silver sedan and fled the scene continuing to travel east on East Colfax Avenue to Airport Boulevard. The suspect vehicle then drove north in the southbound lanes on Airport Boulevard.

In the 2400 block of East Airport Boulevard Denver Police Officers may have attempted a pursuit intervention technique, or P.I.T. maneuver, which successfully disabled the silver sedan. The suspect, and two other occupants, fled on foot and unsuccessfully attempted to carjack a nearby silver minivan.

Finally, the suspect carjacked a nearby maroon SUV, but Denver police officers were able to stop and pin that SUV. During this final encounter with the suspect a Denver police officer made the decision to discharge their weapon striking the suspect.

The suspect, an adult male, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

During a subsequent search of the carjacked maroon SUV, a handgun was found and collected for evidence.
