(January 2, 2020) UPDATE: The Major Crimes Homicide Unit is announcing the arrest of 2 juveniles in relation to this case.
A 15 year old female and a 17 year old male have both been arrested and charged with 1st Degree Murder.
Their information, due to them being juveniles, will not be released nor will their mugshots.
This case is now being prosecuted by the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office. Any further updates or questions will need to be directed towards them.

On December 30th, 2019 officers of the Aurora Police Department responded to a report of a missing person in the 1400 block of South Salem Way.
Several days later it was learned there was information indicating there were suspicious circumstances in this case. A thorough investigation was begun by the Aurora Police Major Crimes/Homicide Unit.
On January 1st, 2020 this case was changed from a Missing Persons to a Homicide Investigation after remains were found that are believed to be the missing person.
Cause of death and positive identification of the remains will be done by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office after next of kin have been notified.
This investigation is continuing and at this time no further information will be released at this time.

UPDATE: After our officers diligently worked to locate him, tonight we can announce Curtis Davis-Barnes is now in custody.
On Wednesday, December 25th, 2019, at approximately 02:15 A.M., Aurora Police Officers responded to the 17000 block of East Kansas Place on a reported shooting.
Upon officer’s arrival they located an adult male inside a house with a gunshot wound. Shortly thereafter, the male was pronounced deceased on scene. Positive identification of the victim will be done by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
This investigation is still very active and ongoing and is being investigated by the Aurora Police Major Crimes/Homicide Unit. Officers are actively looking for the suspect involved in this incident.

UPDATE: An arrest has been made in this case. Kamyl Xavier Garrette DOB 07-10-2001 has been arrested and charged with 18-3-102 Murder in the First Degree. Since more interviews need to be conducted we are not releasing his photo at this time.
On December 27, 2019, at approximately 4:00 p.m. Aurora Police Officers responded to a shooting inside the JCPenney store at the Town Center at Aurora, 14200 East Alameda Avenue.
Upon officer’s arrival they found a juvenile male with a gunshot wound. The male was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he sadly succumbed to his injury.
Positive identification and notification of next of kin will be done by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
This investigation is still very active and ongoing and is being investigated by the Aurora Police Major Crimes/Homicide Unit. Officers are actively gathering information and pursuing leads.

On Wednesday, December 25th, 2019, at approximately 12:20 A.M., Aurora Police Officers responded to 15700 East Colfax Avenue on a reported stabbing.
Upon officer’s arrival they located an adult male and an adult female inside a mobile home, both with stab wounds. The female was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. The male was also transported to the hospital where he remains in critical condition. Positive identification of the female, as well as next-of-kin notifications, will be done by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
This investigation is still very active and ongoing and is being investigated as a homicide by the Aurora Police Major Crimes/Homicide Unit. Investigators are currently trying to determine what led up to the stabbing and the relationship between the male and the female, if any.

2019 at approximately 10:01 p.m. Aurora Police Officers responded to the Aurora
Hills apartment complex located at 11922 East Archer Place on a reported shooting.
Upon officer’s arrival they located a teenage male
inside an apartment with a gunshot wound.
Shortly thereafter the male was pronounced deceased on scene. Positive
identification of the victim, and notification of the next-of-kin will be done
by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
This investigation is still very active and
ongoing and is being investigated as a homicide by the Aurora Police Major
Crimes/Homicide Unit. An arrest as not been made, and so we do not interfere
with any ongoing investigational efforts no further information will be shared

On Sunday December 15th, 2019 just after midnight Aurora Police Officers responded to 11249 East Colfax Avenue due to reports of a male lying in the street.
Upon officers arrival they located an adult Hispanic male lying in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper-body. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he tragically succumbed to his injuries this morning at approximately 6:00 a.m.
Positive identification of the victim, and notification of the next-of-kin will be done by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.

On Thursday November 21st, 2019 at approximately 2:36 p.m., Aurora Police Officers were dispatched to 13606 East 14th Avenue in response to a shooting.
Upon officer’s arrival they found an unresponsive adult male inside of a residence. Shortly thereafter that male was pronounced deceased on scene. Further investigation was necessary to determine the circumstances that led up to the death.
Since then, the Aurora Police Major Crimes/Homicide Unit has upgraded this investigation to a Homicide. On November 22, 2019 a 16-year-old juvenile was arrested and charged with at least the following:
18-3-104 (1)(a) Manslaughter, Class 4 Felony
18-12-108 (1) Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, Class 5 Felony
Due to the suspect being a juvenile no further personal identifying information will be publicly released.
The identity of the deceased male will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office pending positive identification, and notification of his next-of-kin.

UPDATE: The Aurora Police Reward Fund is also matching the Crime Stoppers $2,000 reward, for a total reward of up to $4,000, with information about this incident.
The Aurora Police Major Crime Homicide Unit is continuing to ask for the public’s assistance regarding this vehicle fire. The vehicle, a blue SUV, was pulled over and stopped on the shoulder of the highway, southbound, just south of the on-ramp from E Colfax Ave from Saturday night into early Sunday morning, approximately 1:00 a.m. The vehicle would have been in this location prior to catching fire. On September 8th, 2019, around 01:00 A.M., officers responded to the area of southbound Interstate 225 near East Colfax Avenue on reports of a vehicle fire.
Once the fire had been extinguished by Aurora Fire Rescue, an unidentifiable body was found inside of the vehicle. Information is limited at this time.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office once a positive identification has been made, and next of kin has been notified.

On August 29, 2019 at 10:08 P.M. Aurora Police Officers responded to the call of unknown situation in the area of East 7th Avenue and North Moline Street.
When officers arrived they found an adult male inside the house. He was unresponsive and he was immediately treated by trained medical personnel who arrived on scene. The male was pronounced as deceased at the scene.
The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death and identify the deceased after next of kin notification.

On August 24, 2019 at 9:36 p.m. Aurora Police Officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 2300 block of N. Emporia St.
Upon arriving officers found an adult male suffering with a stab wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
There is a person of interest in this case and this is believed to be an isolated incident. There is no threat to the public.
Positive identification of the victim will be made by the Adams County Coroner’s Office after next-of-kin notification has been made.
