Welcome to Family Book Club! This is an exciting club for families who love to read and is appropriate for ages 8-15. The books chosen are always within the third to sixth grade level but both younger and older kids have enjoyed them! If your child is younger, I encourage the family to read the book aloud together or listen to the audiobook (if available)!

This month we are reading "The Magic in Changing Your Stars" by Leah Henderson. Ailey loves to dance but struggles with fears such as stage fright. 2. Ailey said he wasn’t scared but, when up on stage, forgot everything he had practiced. What do you think happened?

May Family Book Club

Welcome to Family Book Club! This is an exciting club for families who love to read and is appropriate for ages 8-15. If your child is younger, I encourage the family to read the book aloud together or listen to the audiobook (if available)!

Please note: This novel contains religious themes as well as spooky moments involving ghosts (or haints).
Genre: PARANORMAL MYSTERY

Chapters 20 (Family Meeting) – 28 (A Guilty Liar)

1. What is your favorite 4th of July tradition?
2. Janie and Sarah are learning what makes a real friend. Their old friends weren’t actually good ones. Have you had a similar experience?
3. People in town do not want to hear what Mrs. Whitney has to say. Why do you think they are uncomfortable?
4. Do you think Mrs. Green is so strict and (seemingly) unloving because of her family’s sad history?
5. If you were Sarah, would you forgive Jovita?

Chapters 11 (Seed of Doubt) – 19 (The Deaconess)
1. Now we know for sure the church is haunted! Since Janie put the cameo back, do you think they’ll have any more trouble from the haints?
2. Janie stood up for Sarah and it helped to bond them. Has anything like that ever happened to you with someone you weren’t sure you liked very much? It definitely changes your relationship!
3. Sarah can’t find answers in her normal source of information – books. What or who would you go to for help if haints were after you?
4. Do you think Sarah was right to stand up for Mrs. Whitney? Mrs. Greene was embarrassed to be called out in front of her church group but I doubt she would have taken it better in private.
5. Janie is really disappointed her mom won’t be coming for her as planned. Do you think this will make her more difficult to be around now?
