Welcome to Family Book Club! This is an exciting club for families who love to read and is appropriate for ages 8-15. The books chosen are always within the third to sixth grade level but both younger and older kids have enjoyed them! If your child is younger, I encourage the family to read the book aloud together or listen to the audiobook (if available)!

This month we are reading “COG” by Greg Van Eekhout. Cog (short for Cognitive Development) looks like a normal kid but is actually a robot. When he gets damaged and is returned to the lab for repairs, he discovers his creator has disappeared. With the help of four robot friends, Cog sets out on a mission to find her. Genre: SCIENCE FICTION.

Chapters 1 - 11
1. What is your favorite biofuel (food)?
2. What do you think Cog’s shopping experience taught him?
3. Do you think uniMIND is creating good or bad technology?
4. Take a guess –what is the X-module?
5. The scientists at uniMIND have created Cog, given him intelligence and self-awareness, but do not give him much respect. He does not want his brain removed but Nathan will not listen. Is this fair even though he is a robot?
6. Have you ever done a food competition? If so, how did you feel afterward?
7. Do you think Gina is at the Tower?

Next week read chapters 12-22!

We will be having a special virtual event on Monday, June 14 at 5 p.m. to meet the author! Please register here.

Copies of the book are available for checkout at the Tallyn's Reach Library. Please call 303.627.3050 if you'd like to put one on hold to be picked up at a different branch. Unlimited copies of the eAudiobook and eBook are also available through Hoopla Digital.

Make & Learn

Welcome to Make & Learn! In this program, our librarians will be sharing easy-to-make games and activities that support cognitive development and practicing early literacy skills.

In this video, Lisa shares two ways to make your own road for a toy car - one on the floor and one that is more puzzle-like. These activities encourage imagination and make believe play, which support cognitive development and abstract thinking.

The Aurora Police Department will be conducting Stationary Roadside Sobriety Checkpoint on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. This is part of our continuing commitment to the statewide effort to combat drunk drivers and reduce alcohol related traffic accidents and fatalities. This checkpoint is part of the>DUI Checkpoint Colorado program, which kicks off Memorial Day weekend, continuing through Labor Day weekend. This checkpoint will be located on South Chambers Road.

Motorists passing through the checkpoint will be contacted briefly by an officer who will be looking for signs of intoxication and/or impairment in the driver. The checkpoint should cause only minor inconvenience to traffic along the targeted roadway, and highly visible signage will be posted leading into the checkpoint screening area. Drivers entering a checkpoint are asked to pay close attention to the officers directing traffic through the area. Motorists should also roll down their drivers' side window as they approach the screening area. This allows for better communication between the motorist and the officer, quicker screening, and a shorter delay overall.

The checkpoint is funded by an N.H.T.S.A. (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration) grant in partnership with the "Heat is On" campaign and administered by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).
