Founded by General Colin Powell in 1997, America’s Promise is a nationwide partnership alliance dedicated to keeping five essential promises to our nation’s children and youth: Caring Adults, Safe Places, a Healthy Start, an Effective Education, and Opportunities to Help Others.

Aurora City Council Goal
In 2008, the Aurora City Council adopted America’s Promise as a local goal: “Strive for every child and young person in Aurora to have access to the fundamental resources she or he needs to succeed, known as the Five Promises of the America’ Promise initiative.”

America’s Promise in Aurora
Under the umbrella of America’s Promise, the Office of Youth Development brings together youth providers, school districts, health workers, parents, community members, and other individuals devoted to youth success in Aurora. Action teams meet regularly as they work toward our City Council Goal.

The Aurora Youth Commission is currently taking applications. The Commission is looking for eight youth members between the ages of 14-20 years. To apply please print out an application.
