City Manager Ron Miller echoed his support of the selection. “Nancy is a respected professional and has extensive experience overseeing city operations—from Water and Public Works to Police and Fire to Neighborhood Service and Planning,” he said.
Freed received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Goucher College in Baltimore, Md., and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Denver. Her career in public administration spans more than 30 years and includes serving as the Interim and Assistant City Manager of the city of Lakewood, the Executive Director of the Lakewood Housing Authority, and the Executive Director of the American Leadership Forum, a national non-profit founded “to join and strengthen leaders to serve the public good.”
“I’m proud to represent the team of excellent managers and employees at the city,” Freed said.
Throughout her career, Freed has been involved in many major projects. They include the Prairie Waters Project, a massive project that will add 20 percent more water supply for existing Aurora residents; implementing voter approved bonds to build the innovative Tallyn’s Reach and Martin Luther King, Jr. Municipal Service Centers; planning the Transit-Oriented Development areas that will accompany light rail stations in Aurora; and the new I-225 and Colfax interchange that will provide critical access to the Fitzsimons and Anschutz Medical Campus.
As Interim City Manager, Freed will be responsible for overseeing the city’s $615 million budget and 2,676 full-time employees, and managing day-to-day city operations under Council’s direction. The city will launch a national search for a new city manager in the near future.
