The Aurora Center for Active Adults (ACAA) has been awarded national accreditation for the second time. Accreditation status is awarded by the National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC), a constituent unit of the National Council on Aging. The ACAA provides year-round recreational programs and classes for adults ages 50 years and older.
“Being nationally accredited makes a significant statement to our participants, community, advisory board, and management," said ACAA director Ruth Buchheit. It’s quite an accomplishment."
The accreditation process is a quality assurance program that examines nine different standards and requires community involvement in the self assessment process. Those reviewed standards include: community, administration, records and reports, fiscal management, governance, evaluation, facility, purpose and planning.
The ACAA is the third center in Colorado to become nationally accredited, and only two have gained re-accreditation. There are 15,000 senior centers in the nation and only 176 of those have been recognized by the NISC.
The Aurora Center for Active Adults is located at 30 Del Mar Circle. To learn more about programs and classes offered to people 50 and older visit auroragov.org/seniors or call 303-739-7950.
