Aurora named 3rd top Digital City in America
Aurora has placed in the top five cities for the past six years
The Center for Digital Government and Digital Communities magazine has named the most advanced digital cities in America for 2009. Aurora has taken 3rd place in the largest population category of 250,000 and over.
Aurora has placed in the top five cities for the past six years. Also, being named the top Digital City in America for 2007 and 2008, showcases Aurora’s use of advanced technology in serving its citizens and streamlining operations.
“This is a great honor for the city and staff,” said City Manager Ron Miller. “One of Aurora’s finest accomplishments is our use of modern technology.”
The cities were chosen from the results of the ninth annual Digital Cities Survey, which examines how municipalities incorporate information technology into operations which better serve citizens engaging with local government. Aurora’s Information Technology (IT) staff was honored for their outstanding achievement at National League of Cities convention, held in San Antonio, Texas on Nov. 12.
Each year, the Center conducts the Digital Cities Survey to examine how city governments are using digital technologies to better serve their citizens and streamline operations. The survey is open to all U.S. cities with a population of 30,000 or more and respondent cities are classified into four size-based categories. In the 250,000 or more population category, the top ten winners are:
1. Corpus Christi, Texas
2. Miami, Fla. and Tampa, Fla. (tie)
3. Aurora, Colo. and Louisville, Ky. (tie)
4. Tucson, Ariz.
5. Riverside, Calif.
6. Mesa, Ariz. and Virginia Beach, Va. (tie)
7. Chandler, Ariz. and Kansas City, Mo. (tie)
8. Honolulu, Hawaii
9. New York City, N.Y. and Plano, Texas (tie)
10. Houston, Texas, San Antonio, Texas and Washington, D. C. (tie)
