Wemlinger Water Treatment Plant honored by state
Wemlinger Water Treatment Plant staff were honored this week by the state’s Environmental Leadership Program for their outstanding environmental efforts.

Governor Bill Ritter spoke at the downtown Denver event and thanked award recipients for their efforts to help the environment.

“Your efforts matter,” Ritter told the crowd. “Your leadership inspires others to participate in environmental efforts. I applaud your goals and your achievements.”

The Environmental Leadership Program is operated through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and recognizes organizations and business that demonstrate superior environmental performance.

Wemlinger Plant staff received a Bronze award after becoming one of only six plants in the country to receive a “Phase IV” designation from the Partnership for Safe Drinking Water, the highest possible level of performance.

Kirk Watson, a supervisor at Wemlinger, accepted the award for the city.

“We have a responsibility to our residents – and our residents’ children – to do all we can to reduce our impact on the environment,” Watson said. “We are honored to receive this award and will continue to look for additional ways to operate in an environmentally responsible way. “
