Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant ($1,213,938)
The Aurora Police Department was awarded $1,213,938 through the 2009 Recovery Act JAG Local Solicitation grant program.  The grant will run for three years, funding several technology and equipment purchases as well as a fulltime Interpreter Coordinator contract position. Specifically, purchases will include additional motorcycles for traffic enforcement, additional in-car video units, several pieces of Crime Lab forensic equipment, additional tasers for field operational personnel, a new computerized mug shot system, and a computerized inventory management system.

This particular grant award was part of an 8-agency joint application submitted to the Bureau of Justice Assistance, a division of the U.S. Department of Justice. An additional approximate $500,000 is being divided among the other seven agencies. Aurora was designated as the reporting agency for the entire grant application and award program.
