Police Area Representatives (PAR)
					One of the most successful programs at the Aurora Police Department is the Police Area Representatives (PAR) Section. Started in 1983, the program was an inventive departure from traditional policing concepts and emphasized sensitivity and responsiveness to citizen concerns. The PAR Section programs have received overwhelming community support, and the section has grown to a level where it is currently staffed by over 30 commissioned police officers and numerous citizen volunteers.
The primary activities of the PAR officer are problem solving, education and prevention. Each officer works closely with residents and businesses in their area. Officers attend Neighborhood Watch meetings, presenting information regarding crime prevention and personal safety for home and work. PAR officers are also available to offer assistance with problems that may have a detrimental impact on the quality of life in neighborhoods. Foot patrol officers work on and around E. Colfax Ave to help area residents and businesses with quality of life and crime prevention issues. One PAR officer is assigned as a liaison with the senior and at-risk adult community
