The City of Aurora Planning Department is composed of two divisions that work together to manage growth within the city.
Comprehensive & Physical Planning Division
The division provides guidance in transportation, environmental and land-use planning. It updates, maintains, interprets, and implements the Comprehensive Plan and related plans, documents and policies. It conducts special studies, and coordinates and communicates with other departments, governments, and agencies undertaking planning and plan implementation.
The division offers comprehensive planning, transportation planning, and environmental services to a variety of customers. The division also supplies a range of data services including mapping and GIS applications, compilation and analysis of social and economic data, population and employment projections, and address assignment.
Development Review Division
The Development Review Division provides zoning and development information to the public and processes development applications. The division consists of two sections: the Zoning Counter and the Development Review section.

The Zoning section verifies zoning of properties, and reviews fence, sign, special use and building permits. They also provide the site plan inspection for Certificates of Occupancy. The Zoning Counter is located in the Permit Center on the second floor of the Aurora Municipal Center. The Development Review section provides information on land development process, and conducts case management for development applications leading to review and consideration by the Aurora Planning Commission, the Aurora City Council or by the planning director. They also maintain site plan and zoning files for all development. Staffing also is provided to support the Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustment and Appeals.
The Planning Counter is always staffed by a "Planner-In-Charge" who is available to answer questions on a walk-in basis during regular business hours. The Planning Counter also is located on the second floor of the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E. Alameda Pkwy, Aurora, Colorado 80012.
