The Parks and Open Space Department offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities from a one-day clean up, to year-long adopt-a-site, to park or open space improvement projects designed and built by volunteers.

Volunteer Stewards Wanted!
Volunteer stewards can patrol trails, lead programs, staff the nature center, help with special events and assist with resource protection and monitoring. Green Space – Clean Space: Volunteers can work as individuals or as groups to “adopt-a-site” for a day, month or year. The Green Space–Clean Space program is sponsored by the Parks and Open Space and Utilities Departments to keep our stream corridors, parks and open space free from trash and debris. Trail Stewards: Bike, walk or ride your horse as “eyes and ears” along the City of Aurora’s scenic trail system. Trail stewards offer valuable assistance to trail users, staff, and aid in the protection and care of the city’s amazing natural resources. Individuals: Volunteers come in all sizes and are all ages. Individuals are welcome to assist with administrative tasks or teach a class at our Nature Center, complete their requirements for a Scout badge or join with other individuals to help staff an event. Community Groups: Groups are welcome to work with us for a day or for a longer commitment. Groups frequently choose to help clean-up a stream corridor, open space site, or park. Volunteer Workdays: Throughout the year, the city sponsors days where volunteers are needed to complete a specific project. Two of the most popular projects are planting trees for Arbor Day in April and the High Line Canal Clean-Up in March.
