IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR
TROUT TOURNAMENT CONTESTANTS

Due to new procedures for Aquatic Invasive Species prevention at the Aurora Reservoir, mandatory watercraft surveys and inspections are now being conducted on a daily basis. What does this mean for your participation in the 2008 Aurora Reservoir Trout Tournament?

All watercraft including fishing boats, kayaks, canoes, float tubes, pontoons, etc. must be surveyed and successfully pass inspection prior to launching. This includes ALL watercraft used during the $10,000 Trout Tournament.
To prevent excessive delays on the morning of the Tournament, the following procedures have been established:

PRE-INSPECTION AND SEALING OF WATERCRAFT UTILIZING A TRAILER
During the hours of 7am - 7pm, Monday through Sunday, beginning May 3rd, 2008 boat inspectors will be available at Aurora and Quincy Reservoirs to survey, inspect, and seal your vessel to the trailer. Once sealed, the vessel may not be launched upon any waters until the day of the Tournament. Choosing not to utilize the pre-inspection/sealing process will delay entry into the park on the day of the Tournament. Boats with seals that have been tampered with or broken will require a new survey/inspection.

In addition, the following dates and times have been set aside in an effort to provide watercraft users ample opportunities to have their watercraft sealed before the Tournament. These surveys and inspections will be conducted only at Aurora Reservoir and are scheduled for the following dates and times:

  • Sunday May 11th from 11am to 7pm
  • Thursday May 15th from 11am to 7pm
  • Friday May 16th from 11am to 3pm

Quarantine time for the month of May is 11 days; however vessels must meet all other criteria (see below). Vessels launched on contaminated waters/states after May 5th will not be permitted on the water on the day of the event.

HAND LAUNCHED WATERCRAFT
For watercraft not arriving on trailers such as canoes, kayaks, float tubes, etc., a survey and inspection will be conducted on the morning of the Tournament. Seals will be provided at that time for access to the water for the day of the Tournament. Boaters are encouraged to arrive early; inspections will begin at 4 a.m.

OVERNIGHT STORAGE
Overnight storage of vessels at the reservoir's boat launching beach will be permitted for those who have reserved and paid the storage fee. Storage is only for the night before the Tournament and vessels must also be surveyed and inspected. To help ensure a quick drop off for overnight storage the pre-inspection process is highly recommended. Space is limited. Call 303-690-1286 to check availability.

CRITERIA FOR FAILING AN INSPECTION
Boats will not be permitted upon the Reservoir if:

 Water is present within the vessel or lower unit of the motor. This includes but is not limited to live-wells, storage compartments or bilge areas. All live bait (minnows, leeches, etc.) must be kept in a separate portable container
 The vessel has launched on any body of water or state that has tested positive for zebra mussels within the quarantine time period
 Aquatic vegetation is present on the watercraft or trailer
 Aquatic nuisance species are identified or suspected
 Boat cleanliness prohibits or significantly impacts a thorough inspection
 State of Colorado safety equipment is not on board and or registrations are not current for the vessel

ALL STATE OF COLORADO BOATING REGULATIONS APPLY SO PLEASE REMEMBER

 Wearable personal flotation devices for all persons on board
 A sound producing device such as a whistle or air horn per vessel
 Current State of Colorado registration for all watercraft powered by motor or sail

 Do not overload your vessel. Capacity plate limitations must be followed

 Consult a Colorado Boating Statutes and Regulations pamphlet
 Children under the age of 13 must wear a personal flotation device at all times
