Featured Pet of the Week for July 26th
FATTY

Fatty (ID #A 134334) is a 3-year old, neutered male, Rhodesian Ridgeback mix.  He needs a new name as well as a new family, because “Fatty” certainly doesn’t describe this handsome fellow.  Besides good looks, he also has a sweet and loving personality.  Fatty was surrendered by his last owners after he jumped their 3-foot fence and was captured running at large.  He does well indoors, but if potential adopters plan on ever letting him into the backyard unsupervised, they should have a 6-foot fence around the property.

This great dog is available in kennel K14 at the Aurora Animal Shelter, 15750 E. 32nd Avenue.  Call 303-326-8280 for adoption information.

Shelter Tip of the Week: Naming an Adopted Animal

Adopters sometimes feel they have to keep an animal’s name, even if they don’t like it.  In reality, animals learn and respond to new names quickly.  If you think about pets you’ve known or had in the past, most probably had a couple of nicknames they would react to, as well as their ‘given’ name.  If you’re bringing home a new companion animal, don’t hesitate to provide it with a name you believe is a better fit for it.

Animals for Adoption

The Aurora Animal Shelter has many wonderful animals available for adoption. You can visit them during the shelter’s normal hours of operation. All animals must be spayed or neutered before going home with their newly adoptive family.

Lost Pets

Call the shelter to register a “lost report” with information on your pet and phone numbers where you can be reached if your animal is found. Frequently visit the Aurora Animal Shelter in person. Post well-placed “Missing” posters at main entry ways to your neighborhood. Placing an unlaundered piece of clothing outside may help your animal detect your scent and find its way home.

Found Pets

If you find a stray animal, local newspapers run a free "found" advertisement in the classified section for three days, but it's best to bring the animal to the Aurora Animal Shelter. Owners routinely search animal shelters for their missing pets.

After-hours kennels are located on the west side of the shelter next to the garage and kennel doors are propped open at closing time. The doors lock automatically upon closing to prevent animals from inadvertently being placed together. Please provide us with information on when and where the animal was found by completing one of the forms from boxes hanging on the wall next to the kennels.

If you prefer to keep the animal at your personal residence, call the shelter to register a “found report.” The Animal Care Division’s computerized database will indicate if someone has placed a corresponding “lost report” so the animal can be reunited with its owners.

Pet Licenses Online

You can quickly and easily purchase a license for your pet and renew it online each year. Intact Permits may also be purchased and renewed online.

Before you begin the process, you should have at-hand the copy of the rabies certificate from your veterinarian for rabies tag information, vaccine expiration date, and information regarding your pet’s doctor.
