Smoky Hill Trail Landmark
Landmarked 2006

The Smoky Hill Trail stretched across the dry plains linking Kansas City and Denver. Thousands of settlers, gold seekers, and travelers used the three branches of the trail. The Middle Branch, or Starvation Trail (named for the grisly demise of one group of travelers) ran close to present day Smoky Hill Road. The historical marker placed near the Southlands Mall honors the intrepid souls that made the difficult journey.
