Artist: Bill Vielehr
Title: Reflective Urban Quilt
Media: Cast aluminum and bronze
Date: 2007
Funding: 1% Art in Public Places Ordinance
Location: Fire Station #1
9801 E. 16th Avenue

Reflective Urban Quilt is made up of three sculptural elements: two cast aluminum columns that encircle one cast bronze stool.

The surface of the sculpture is riddled in marks reminiscent of hieroglyphs and petroglyphs, which emphasize the importance of communication and language. Twenty Fire Station #1 fire fighters and family members participated in the mark-making process by creating their own 12-inch by 12-inch sections of the “quilt.”
