The Aurora Police Department is committed to Community Policing, a philosophy that promotes a close cooperation between citizens and the police department through communication and interaction.
Volunteers are an essential part of community policing and are a priority at the Aurora Police Department. With the help of Volunteers In Policing (VIPs), the police department personnel can dedicate more time to reducing crime. Volunteers cover enough man hours for the police department to equal to the hours of more than 10 full time officers for an entire year.
